Islamabad: The special court today (Friday) has dismissed all arguments by former military ruler Pervez Musharraf’s councels including to try the high treason case in military court instead of the special court.
A three-member bench was hearing the case headed by Justice Faisal Arab.
The court said that the reference regarding to run the case in the military court according to Army Act 1977 was non-worthy as this act was dimished on 1981.
According to sources, the court summoned former military on March 11 and it is expected the on the same day, the court will indictment him in high treason case.
The court said that only the special court has the right to hear high treason case against Musharraf’s.
Embattled Musharraf on Tuesday appeared for the first time in the special court conducting his treason trial but was not charged as the judges said they would decide his petition challenging their mandate.
This is the first time in Pakistan’s 66-year history that a former military ruler is facing trial for treason. If convicted, 70-year-old Musharraf could face life imprisonment or the death penalty.
