ISLAMABAD: The controversial Protection of Pakistan ordinance and Anti-terrorism ordinance get 120 days extension from Pakistan’s National Assembly today.
The bill for extension of dual ordinances was presented by federal minster Zahid Hamid Khan.
While Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, Jamaat e Islami and Muttahida Qaumi Movement principally opposed the move as both MQM and PTI term the PPO as a draconian law carved out to crush political parties and their workers and help agencies carry their abduct and kill at will policies freely.
Independent MNA Jamshed Dasti and PPP also opposed the move.
It must be remembered that according to PPO , missing persons would be considered ‘under custody’ and a petition of abduction cannot be filed against the secret service agencies. This ordinance also abolished the 90-day detention bracket for producing the detainee in court.
