Karachi: Organisers and Sindh government is all set for the inaugural ceremony of Sindh Festival at Moen-Jo-Daro here on Saturday (today), despite serious reservations by Sindh High Court, archeologists and civil society on its vicinity.
Organisers and Sindh government assured the people of Sindh to maintain the integrity of the ancient ruins at Moen-Jo-Daro, during the festival which will continue till February 15.
The festival, which commences today at Moen-Jo-Daro, will be hosted by Humaima Malick who sounded very excited on having given this opportunity and said, “I am very excited to be a part of this festival. I think it’s a great initiative by Bilawal and I wish him all best for addressing such an important subject. As a society, this was a much needed event to broaden our outlook and own our identities.”
PPP patron-in-chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that Pakistani musician and sufi singers will perform, terming the event a peace concert.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, in his message on Tweeter said that the Director General Archeology has briefed him clarifying that Mohenjo Daro, declared as heritage site by UNSESCO, will not be threatened by ceremony of Sindh Festival.
He also hoped that his clarification will satisfy concerns of the people. Referring to those active on social media, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari invited them to support Sindh Festival to preserve, promote & protect our heritage.
Experts have warned that the opening ceremony of the Sindh Festival could place Mohenjadaro one of the world’s ancient civilizations at risk.
Large wooden and steel scaffolds are being erected over and around the ruins, while heavy spotlights and lasers have been installed for a light show.
Experts demanded to ban such activity under the Antiquity Act, as no one cannot even hammer a nail at an archaeological site so this huge construction can destroyed this legacy.
The Sindh High Court (SHC) has agreed to hear a case which seeks to bar the provincial government from building on the site.
