Riyadh: A senior Saudi Islamic scholar has declared usage of mobile phone during driving a Haram act because it endangers lives.
According to Emirates 24/7, Sheikh Khalaf bin Mohammed Al Mutlaq, a member of the Fatwa Authority in eastern Saudi Arabia, said Islam stresses the need for Muslims to protect their lives, property and money, offspring, religion and family.
“Using mobile phones while driving is extremely dangerous because driving a car requires much attention and concentration in order to protect lives and public and private property,” he told a seminar on the risks of using mobiles while driving.
“Drivers who use such devices are violating Islam and this means such acts are haram (prohibited)…drivers must not do anything that will detract their attention while driving and threaten lives and property…in case they have to use mobiles while driving, they must stop their cars.”
