Lahore: Punjab government on Saturday formally announced to include Basant mela in the Punjab Youth Festival (PYF) which would be started from December 23.
Pakistan Muslim League –Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif has announced that a Basant festival will be held in Lahore.
This was stated by Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Hamza Shahbaz during the inaugural ceremony of logo of the PYF.
Hamza Shahbaz said Basant would be made part of sports festival, adding that the provincial government had a plan to revive Basant culture.
He also said legislation would be made for the restoration of sports grounds.
The MNA said that during the last season around 3.5 million people participated in the festival which was a record.
“This time around 5 million people will participate and make another record”, he added
Earlier, Sports minister Rana Mashood also confirmed that a seven-day Basant festival will be organized under the banner of Punjab Youth Festival 2013-14.
The festival is scheduled to start from December 23 in Changa Manga, Lahore.
Special trains would run from Lahore to Changa Manga in this regard.
