KARACHI: Despite insisting more over its stance to delay in local bodies’ polls till December , the Sindh government on Friday has finally agreed holding LB election on January 18.
The Sindh government surrendered before the firm decision of the highest electoral board, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), for organising LB polls over the announced date.
The provincial information minister Sharjeel Memon conducted a press conference regarding the governmental decision for the polling process.
Sharjeel Memon said that the Sindh government will hold the local bodies’ election on the ECP’s given date, January 18.
The decision was made after the today’s high-level session of the government officials under chair of the Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah.
Earlier on December 5, The Sindh provincial government had urged for holding local bodies’ election in March while rejected to provide any reason before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Memon said that the Sindh government doesn’t want any speediness in the LB polls.
He clarified the stance of Sindh govenment that the perception should be removed from each mind that provincial administration is against holding LB election.
The provincial minister claimed that they are not restricted to provide reasons before ECP in accordance to the constitution, however, immediate contact would be made to the highest electoral board regarding the local governance polls.
Memon added that there are some reasons for the delay but now the government could hold local election on any given date of March.
