New Delhi: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif‚ now in India has stressed Pakistan and India to resume dialogue process for resolving all the outstanding issues between the two countries and said that dialogue was only way forward to establish durable peace in the region.
In an meeting with the Prime Minsiter of India, Manmohan Singh, he particularly urged India to resolve the Kashmir issue with utmost sincerity and fair play to give peace a chance.
Shahbaz Sharif said the Kashmir dispute has the potential to escalate war and if something happens like that it will be terrible for all of us.
He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is firmly committed to peace with India.
Shahbaz said war is not an option for two nuclear countries. He said history bears testimony that even the most ardent enemies have settled their disputes through talks and not war.
He said that during a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, he gave his views on Sir Creek, Siachen, water sharing and Kashmir and backed talks to resolve issues.
“We have to resolve problems through talks…not an option to brush problems under the carpet, have to address them (problems),” he said.
Responding to a question on terrorism affecting bilateral ties, Sharif said, “Pakistan is also a victim of terrorism, we obviously condemn all forms of terrorism, we should cooperate in facing the menace and stem it.”
