ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan’s opposition leader in National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah has expressed his hope for agreeing on a name for top post of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) before the commencement of local government elections.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) affiliated Syed Khurshid Shah said that the name for the top post of electoral department will be provided before 12-member parliamentary committee for approval after the consensus between the federal government and opposition.
Talking to media Shah said that after the final approval of the president the process of fresh appointment on the post of CEC would be completed before elections.
He admitted the PPP-led government had failed in legislation on the issue of provincial quota of appointments in federal government, which the present government had done. He demanded the implementation of the quota system.
Extension tenure of the quota system is positive progress and opposition would cooperate with government on the issue, he said admitting lacunas in some constitutional amendments and said that it was the responsibility of parliament to remove these constitutional flaws.
PPP leader said that the progress should be made in development projects, initiated in Balochistan and opposition would support government on the issue of Balochistan as well.
