KARACHI: Prominent politico-religious party, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), has organised protests against US drone strikes and continuation of NATO supplies via public march in Karachi on Sunday (today).
JI top leadership appealed the people of the metropolis to participate in the public march taken out from Muhammad Ali Jinnah tomb to Tibet Center.
JI Pakistan chief Syed Munawar Hassan will lead the public march protesting against the US drone strikes in Pakistan and NATO supplies’ continuation to the foreign troops in Afghanistan.
JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman had earlier announced the arrangement details and agenda of the public meeting going to be held in Karachi today in which top leadership would address to the party activists.
Coalition partner in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) government, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had also announced joining hands with JI in today’s event at its headquarter Idara-e-Noor Haq.
The announcement was made during the press conference conducted yesterday where PTI Sindh President Nadir Akmal Khan Leghari, MPA Hafeezuddin Advocate, Saif-ur-Rehman and others were also present on the occasion.
Different political and religious parties had also decided joining the chorus of JI’s appeal for the protests on the issue including Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP), Jamaat-ud-Dawa and Shabab-e-Milli.
Several party camp offices has been established in each area of the city for public gathering from where the locals will travel to the main destination in shape of rallies while the protests would be started on 3:00 pm (Pakistani time).
Public awareness camps were set up in several areas of Karachi since last two days inviting the locals for the today’s march while activists were seen putting banners with anti-US slogans across the city till late night.
Large-scale protests sparked across the country after the last US drone attack in Hangu on a Islamic school, Madarrasa, situated in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province.
PTI KPK also paying sit-ins on different spots on Sunday (today) from where NATO supply containers went off to Afghanistan.
