Islamabad: The Law Ministry sent a letter to the Supreme Court which it received by Interior Ministry seeking to initiate treason proceedings and to form special court for the trial of former military dictator Pervez Musharraf under the Article 6 of the constitution.
In the letter, the interior ministry states that Musharraf had violated the constitution by imposing emergency rule in the country in November 2007.
According to the letter, a trial needs to take place as soon as possible with a ‘special court’ hearing the case. The prosecutor for the case needs to selected immediately as well, the letter further stated.
The case can only proceed further after the judges are decided by the Supreme Court.
On Sunday, Interior Minister Chaurdhy Nisar Ali Khan announced that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) committee had submitted its inquiry report, in light of which a treason case would be initiated against Musharraf.
