ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) of Pakistan has approved resolution for delay in local bodies’ election in the country and sought appropriate time to complete necessary arrangements.
Providing the stance for the delay in electoral process in Pakistan, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) affiliated opposition leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi presented the resolution against the schedule of local bodies’ election, local media reported.
Opposition parties expressed reservations by questioning the transparency of upcoming polls as printing of ballot papers and electoral lists should not be done under management of private printers except the governmental department, Pakistan Printing Corporation.
Consensus was seen between the opposition parties in National Assembly who presented resolution with signatures of prominent leaders of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Khursheed Shah, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Farooq Sattar, Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Mehmood Khan Achakzai and other political leaders as well.
On the other hand, Pakistan Printing Corporation had excused earlier for printing 250 million ballot papers in 20 to 25 days and demanded provision of an appropriate time to complete the process.
Earlier, Election Commission Pakistan announced commencement of polls in Punjab, Balochistan on December 7 and in Sindh on November 27.
