ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday has freezed electoral lists of three provinces including Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan for upcoming local bodies’ election.
The highest electoral board of Pakistan has entered into final phase of LB polls’ preparation as the voters’ lists provided by the provincial governments are now sealed, sources said.
ECP sources told TheNewsTribe, the lists cannot be amended till the holding of local bodies’ election in the provinces respectively.
It should be mentioned that ECP took nontraditional step in favour of local bodies’ election by handing over responsibility for preparing electoral lists to the governments of four provinces including Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
All four provincial governments will complete the electoral lists’ work under its management while ECP also sent letters the provincial chief secretaries in Islamabad.
However, the provided lists showed the statistics of the provinces respectively as 10.9 million voters registered in Sindh, 3.47 million in Balochistan and 49.3 million in Punjab.
Local bodies’ elections are expected to be organised on November 27 in Sindh and on December 7 in Punjab, according to the suggested dates of provincial governments.
