ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended high-level session with political parties for discussing issues of local bodies’ election in Pakistan.
ECP had called special meeting with all political parties across the country earlier in order to gain confidence over problems occur during commencement of local polls on announced dates for three provinces.
On the other hand, the National Assembly of Pakistan approved resolution against schedule of local bodies’ election on basis of some reservations which provided ultra-relief to ECP indirectly for making a delay in local bodies’ election.
Subsequently, ECP revised his decision to hold meeting with political parties after the approval of resolution against the upcoming electoral process.
However, ECP officials stated that the election would be organised on the announced dates following the orders of the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan.
Regardless of the statement, ECP felt securer after gaining support of opposition parties in National Assembly and shielded itself successfully for any expected legal action in case of delay in local bodies election in Pakistan, legal experts said.
