Minister for Power and Water, Khwaja Asif says that the electricity crises in the country are coming down gradually. Pakistan may face severe water crises in 15-20 years if appropriate measures are not taken.
Minister for Water and Power Khwaja Asif said that water is a serious concern for Pakistan which needs to be resolved at the earliest to avoid water crises. The government will ensure the protection of water rights of Pakistan.
In a press conference in Islamabad, Khwaja Asif said that water is a matter of life and death for Pakistan. The government will ensure that Indus Water Treaty gets implemented with India. The country has some serious concerns on Indus Water Treaty; nevertheless, government will defend water rights.
The minister said that the water of Pakistan has been encroached Indian dams and the distribution according to the Indus Water Treaty tilts in the favour of the arch rivals. He further said that the government is trying to emit mistakes made by the earlier governments.
Khwaja Asif said Pakistan may get serious shortage of water in coming 10-15 years time period if no appropriate measures be taken. He said in order to overcome this all important issue, a joint strategy need to be taken.
Khwaja Asif stated that the media must also highlight this crucial aspect and highlight Pakistan’s stance over it positively. Responding to a question, the minister said that the situation of electricity in the country is improving. Earlier‚ the Minister for Water and Power was given briefing on water situation.
The minister also said that India deliberately releases more water which causes floods in Pakistan.
