PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shaukatullah Khan stated that restrictions in travelling maybe faced by Pakistanis since the polio cases are on the rise, Dawn News reports.
The governor of KPK during a World Polio Day function at the Governor’s House said, “If the situation (high polio incidence) is not handled on war footing, there could be a ban on Pakistanis wanting to travel to Saudi Arabia for Haj and Umrah as well as workers”.
He added that FATA is under grave danger for enhanced cases of Polio being reported and thus it is a matter of concern but KPK government aims to meet challenges in an effective manner. According to the statement by the governor KPK 37 cases of Polio has thus far being reported that amount to 75% of the total cases reported in the country this year.
Governor KP Shaukatullah Khan said there is increasing resistance on giving polio drops to the children in Khyber agencies and North Waziristan. He said that the awareness in public need to be increased regarding the growing threats of polio in their children if they are left unvaccinated.
The governor further said that Pakistan need to decide their fate, will they like future of their children as disabled? Or would they save their children so that they may be part of nation building process and save them from becoming a socioeconomic burden? He also praised people involved in polio campaign in FATA despite of all the dangers being faced by them.
The governor also emphasised the youth to play its role in the campaign for the eradication of polio. He also said that tribal children must be protected from the disease so that they may not end up in physical disability.
