Nokia will be holding a press event on October 22, where the company is widely expected to launch some new smartphones and two highly-anticipated devices. The company will reportedly announce the first Windows Phone phablet, the Lumia 1520. The 6-inch smartphone will allow Nokia and, more importantly, Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS to compete with Android-based phablets like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the upcoming HTC One Max.
The handset is rumored to feature a 6-inch Full HD 1080P display and powerful quad-core Snapdragon processor. The Lumia 1520 will reportedly land on AT&T in the coming weeks.
The second device that has been making the rounds and should be unveiled on Oct. 22 is the Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet. Unlike other Lumia devices, the 2520 will trade in Windows Phone for Windows RT 8.1 OS. This is the same operating system Microsoft uses in its Surface and Surface 2 tablets and the Lumia 2520 also shares some other similarities with Microsoft’s tablets.
The Lumia 2520 will reportedly feature two trademark features from the Surface line. It is expected to use the same built-in kickstand that Microsoft’s Surface tablets came with last yeara and it will also include support for an optional click-in keyboard that will serve as a battery extender. Microsoft just announced the same accessory for it latest Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets.
The upcoming Nokia tablet will also share some similarities found in the company’s Lumia smartphones. According to the very reliable evleaks, the Lumia 2520 will be offered in four distinct colors Nokia likes to use with its smartphones. The tablet will be available in black, white, red and cyan (pictured above).
The Lumia 2520 is also expected to include a 10.1-inch 1080 x 1920 Full HD display, a 2.15GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a 6.7-megapixel rear camera with Carl Zeiss optics.
Nokia is expected to release Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 4G LTE models. The latest rumors claim the LTE-enabled tablets will be available from Verizon and AT&T in mid-November.
