Tokyo: Samsung will register another achievement as its upcoming device Samsung Galaxy Round likely to become world’s first smartphone with flexible display.
The race was on between Samsung and LG to be the first to launch a smartphone with a flexible display. Samsung has won with the Galaxy Round.
Just like Samsung set the mini trend with Samsung Galaxy S3 mini and now Samsung announced the world’s first smartphone with the flexible display. Company also deserves credit for creating the phablet category when it introduced the Galaxy Note to the world.
Many said consumers would not want to carry a device with a screen the size of a small tablet. Samsung just released the Galaxy Note 3 and continues to release smartphones with display sizes for almost anyone. The mini series consists of shrunken down flagships, the Note line devices have a 5+inch screen with S Pen, and the company has done it again with a Super AMOLED flexible display in the world’s first curved display smartphone, the Galaxy Round.
The Galaxy Round’s curved display coupled with Samsung’s innovative software brings a new smartphone experience to users. The handset has been designed to be extremely comfortable in your hand and provide exclusive experiences through the use of the curved display. It features a 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, is 7.9mm thick and weighs 154g.
The curved display adds new ways of interacting with the device:
“As a result of its unique curved design, users can take advantage of round integration experiences like the Roll Effect that enables the user to check information such as the date, time, missed calls and battery easily when home screen is off, and the Gravity Effect for creating visual interaction with the screen by tilting the device. For music, the Bounce UX enables users to control their music. When the GALAXY Round’s display is off while the music player is running, a short press to the left of the device will play the previous track while a short press to the right will play the next track. “
Samsung announced that the Galaxy Round will be available in Korea very soon. The company did not announce any other launch plans, but the new flexible displays are in limited production for now.
