LAHORE: At least one person killed and 14 were injured in a bomb blast inside a food restaurant called ‘Sindhi Biryani’ situated at old Anarkali market of Lahore, the provincial capital city of Pakistan’s Punjab province.
Severe blast has rocked the renowned old Anarkali market of Lahore on Thursday while the intensity of the explosives could be observed as windows glasses of the adjacent buildings were cracked, Pakistani media reported.
“The furious bomb explosion was carried out via time device”, AIG Operations Rai Tahir said.
The injured persons were shifted to Mayo Hospital of Lahore including one woman in serious condition, rescue sources said.
Hospital sources told TheNewsTribe representative that at least 14 injured persons of the explosive are under treatment, 1 persons succumbed to injuries and 3 others are currently in serious condition.
Muhammad Hanif 30, Zafar Iqbal 37, Muhammad Zahid 42, Muhammad Makki 48, Tariq 19, Ashraf 19, Zarrina 40, Ashfaq Ahmed 63, Rasheed 20, Iqbal 24 and Umair 30 were amongst the injured persons in the explosion, local media reported.
Medical Superintendent (MS) Mayo Hospital, Zahid Pervaiz, also confirmed that 10 injured persons were taken to the hospital, Geo News reported.
DCO Lahore Nasim Sadiq said that two more wounded persons are in serious condition while doctors are providing best possible facilities to them.
While answering to a question about the number of wounded ones, Sadiq asked the media that they have transferred 8 persons to the hospital including 2 in serious condition.
Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and forensic experts’ teams have reached the location and started collecting evidences.
According to police’s investigative report, explosion material were installed under main counter of the shop which consists of approximately 1 kilogram (kg) of explosives.
On the other hand, officials of law enforcement agencies started search operation in the area by taking help of detective dogs.
Punjab’s Inspector General (IG) Khan Baig, while talking to media, said that it was a low-intensity explosive while the department cannot blame anyone before completion of investigation.
Lahore’s Additional Inspector General (AIG) Operations of Police Rai Tahir reached the affected location and told the details of blast before media.
AIG Tahir detailed that police officials have initiated investigation to observe the genre of explosive whether it is remote controlled or timed bomb, Dunya News reported.
Chief Minister of Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif, has condemned the explosion and ordered the authorities for confirming provision of best medical facilities to the injured persons.
Shahbaz Sharif has called detailed report of the bomb blast from the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Khan Baig.
Law enforcement agencies have cordoned off whole area and signalled for commencing a search operation in the area.
More contingents of security forces are reaching the location and several rescue teams have also been dispatched to the affected side.
Earlier on July 6, almost same kind of explosion were occurred here which resulted killing of at least five people and injuring 50 others including women at an eatery situated in old Anarkali’s food street market of Lahore on Saturday.
