ISLAMABAD: Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan on Thursday said that Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan provinces have completed lawmaking for local bodies’ election except Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).
Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan unveiled the updated information about upcoming local bodies’ poll across Pakistan.
The ECP official surprisingly exposed that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) administered province who repeatedly insisted over the needfulness for local or grass-root governance haven’t completed lawmaking.
However, Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan said that ECP will issue the polling schedule within 30 days after receiving formal request from the provinces and interior ministry.
“600 million ballet papers will be printed for local bodies’ poll as number of voters exceeds from 80 million in Pakistan”, he said. “200 million ballet papers were printed in general elections 2013”
ECP official detailed that committees have been formed on national and provincial level; they will look after each issue regarding the polling and organise pilot project in each district and submit their suggestions in a meeting scheduled on October 22.
He said that the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan asked to organise election immediately while all provincial governments also wished same.
The secretary clarified that organising of the local bodies’ election is responsibility of ECP.
