QUETTA: Unidentified armed men on Wednesday attacked a police checkpost in Panjgur district of Pakistan’s Balochistan province, reports said.
According to local media, around four armed men attacked the checkpost in Panchai area of the district.
“The policemen deputed at the checkpost repulsed the attack and injured two of the attackers.”
The police sources said that both the injured attackers had been arrested while others had been fled.
Balochistan, which borders Afghanistan and Iran, has seen a surge in violence recently, with the province suffering from a separatist insurgency, sectarian violence and Taliban militants.
Hundreds of people have died since militants rose up in 2004 demanding political autonomy and a greater share of profits from the region’s natural oil, gas and mineral resources.
