ISLAMABD: Applications for 2014/15 British Chevening Scholarships for Pakistan are now open announced the British High Commission in Islamabad. Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations.
Last year 23 Pakistani students were awarded Chevening Scholarships who are currently studying in a range of areas including Governance & Democracy, Communication and Journalism, Gender Studies, Social Development, Public Administration, Law and Human Rights, Finance and Counter Terrorism.
Expressing U.K’s commitment to work with Pakistan at all levels of education, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan Adam Thomson said that Chevening scholarships offer talented Pakistani nationals the opportunity to study for a post-graduate qualification in the UK. He was speaking at the launching ceremony of Chevening scholarship programme in Pakistan for the 2014/15 academic year.
He said that, students who came to the UK benefit not only from our world class universities but also from our dynamic, vibrant and multicultural society. Our universities also benefit from having such top professionals study with them. Over the past 30 years the Chevening scholarship programme in Pakistan has enabled more than 1200 Pakistanis to study in the UK. These students came from across Pakistan and from many sectors, including local and central government, business and industry, civil society and the media. These scholarships are an important part of our wider engagement on education in Pakistan, which includes training teachers, building schools and increasing primary school enrolment.”
