Karachi: The office of the most elite official has made over Rs. 350 million in eight months by issuing almost 25000 fake arms licenses.
According to revelation by Commissioner Karachi’s office, fake licences were issued during the tenure of Roshan Sheikh from November 2011 to July 2012. Almost Rs. 15000/- bribe was taken per license and all of them were for 9MM Pistols. These are the same arms that are used in target killing in the metropolitan city of Karachi, investigative reports reveal.
The investigation was carried out by 9 member team which was headed by additional commissioner. Deputy Commissioner, representative of interior ministry, commissioner office Karachi and representatives of National Bank of Pakistan were also present.
Deputy Commissioner South issued 100 licences for arms on fake letterhead. When the inquiry Chairman tried to bring the reality in public, he was dismissed from his duties. During November 2011 to 16th July 2012, 5000 arms were issued on the signatures of Assistant Commissioner (revenue) Abdul Wajid Sheikh. Earlier, he rejected the claims and said that he needs not to be involved in the process of investigation.
On further investigation, it was revealed that 5,646 licenses have been revealed to be unregistered. The register in which record was maintained had empty pages. Other 15 thousand licenses had also been issued as the report reveals.
Thus almost 25,000 fake licenses were issued to everyone on behalf of heavy bribe. According to the sources 35 crore were made in just a span of 8 months. According to the sources, Chief Secretary has requested the law enforcement agencies must take action against the Abdul Wajid Sheikh along with others associated with him.
