Karachi: Sindh government has removed 2 vice chancellors of prominent universities on Wednesday promptly after signing of amended universities bill 2013.
Acting Governor of Sindh, Agha Siraj Durrani, has signed Sindh Universities Laws Act 2013 today in absence of Governor Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan.
Sindh Universities Laws Act 2013 transferred administrative powers of governmental universities from Governor to Chief Minister with full authorities for appointments of Vice Chancellors, Registrars and Finance Secretary.
The newly imposed bill allowed the CM Sindh Qaim Ali Shah for the appointments of Institute of Business Administration (IBA) directors instead of the varsity’s Board of Directors (BoD).
According to the amendment bill, no one can be elected as Vice Chancellor for third time which resulted termination of two vice chancellors from their posts.
The terminated vice chancellors including Professor Masood Hameed from Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) and Professor Qadeer Rajput from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET).
