ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has spotted ‘some’ irregularities in international visits of the country’s top leadership including outgoing President Asif Ali Zardari, former Prime Ministers Yousaf Raza Gillani and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
Foreign Ministry revealed that President Asif Ali Zardari, former Prime Ministers Yousaf Raza Gillani, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and their accompanies in various international visit to other countries had made record corruption during five-year tenure, a local newspaper reported.
The ministry said that previous Pakistani leadership had visited almost 53 countries in which the top officials made use of 1500 luxurious car including B.M.W, Mercedes, vans, buses and other cars. The price of these vehicles had been spent from national treasury.
According to the governmental documents, President Asif Ali Zardari did maximum visits and several car were taken on rent for his travelling while performing Umrah, 194 vehicles were hired during his 21 days stay.
The outgoing President Zardari did 45 record visits of Dubai in which 290 vehicles rented for him and for their envoy member while payments were cleared by Government of Pakistan.
He stayed in Dubai for more than 200 days and each time he rented cars were used for his transportation.
Maintaining the trend in United States of America, 763 Sedan car and Mercedes were rented for President, Prime Minister and their accompanies for travelling.
During the visit to Switzerland, the government officials along with others made use of 65 cars on rent and stayed there for more or less 90 days.
The ministry denied to provide further details to National Assembly’s Secretariat, however, sources closers to the foreign office said that transportation expenses could be reached up to millions.
Moreover, President Zardari made his four visits to Paris in which 100 luxurious cars were hired whereas former PM Gillani once visited France.
