ISLAMABAD: An overwhelming majority of citizens in Pakistan say there should be democratic rule in all over the Muslim world.
According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, an overwhelming majority of Pakistanis (73%) say there should be democratic rule in Muslim countries; 17% prefer a monarchical system.
A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “Some people think that Muslim countries should have a monarchy, others favor a democratic system and yet others support army rule. What type of system do you prefer?” Responding to this, 17% said monarchical rule, 73% said a democratic system and 9% said army rule. 1% did not give a response.

The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2661 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during June 10, 2013 – June 17, 2013. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
