Earthquake shakes Islamabad, Lahore, Abbottabad and other parts of Pakistan, Kashmir

ISLAMABAD: An earthquake measuring 5.5 on Richter Scale jolted several areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces as well as Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan on early Saturday.

The tremors were felt in Peshawar‚ Swat‚ Nowshera‚ Malakand, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Chitral, Khyber Agency‚ Rawalpindi, Islamabad Lahore and Azad Kashmir.

According to the met office, the epicenter of the quake was 119 kilometer in south-east of Srinagar.

However, the US Geological Survey said that the earthquake with magnitude 5.2 occurred near Srinagar, Kashmir at 21:37:46.60 UTC on Aug 2, 2013.

No loss of life or property has so far been reported from any part of Pakistan. However, people came out of their houses in panic.
