QUETTA, Pakistan: “We are showing you delaying footage of terrorists attack and security forces operation in Bolan Medical Hospital (BMC) as per the guidelines given in the code of conduct” This was stated by one of Pakistani TV news anchor after the 2 hours of continues coverage of terrorist attack in Quetta, the capital city of southern province of Pakistan.
Although electronic media in Pakistan is now more than 10 years older but the immature attitude can be seen every day during live or recorded transmissions of the channels.
Very after the clarification statement anchor had shifted on other news story and after few minutes the channel starts BMC operation coverage again.
During more than 180 minutes long security forces operation in the tertiary care hospital of Quetta, all of Pakistani news channels are in race to capture and visualize every detail of the event.
Government sources in Pakistani capital Islamabad told TheNewsTribe that the action from Pakistan electronic media regulatory authority (PEMRA) was the thing which bound Pakistani channels to avoid their live telecast and to show even the thinnest detail of the security operation to the audience.
Zain Ali correspondent of CNBC, Pakistani news channel also injured in the incident, he was besieged in the parking lot of the hospital with other media men and security personnel including a deputy superintendent of Quetta Police. He got the bullet after the disclosure of his position by other journalists during their live beepers. Journalists in the hospital was asked for their positions by news anchors, sitting in the faraway studios of the channels.
“This wasn’t the only incident when Pakistani news channels show their immature image, they do it very often specially during terrorist direct attacks or bomb blasts, where many channels trying to win the race through reporting more casualties and big losses” said Hassan Bashir, chief operating officer of human development organization who has wast experience of organizational and individual behavior.
Bashir told that when any one ignores professional growth and his/her responsibility as part of society, he or she can misguide himself and others often.
Pakistani TV channels often show dead bodies and other scenes which aren’t allowed usually just to capture the audience and to become the winner of ranking race.
