KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has rejected the decision of Election Commission Pakistan for re-election on disputed constituency under supervision of army.
Talking at a press conference, MQM’s leader Syed Mustafa Kamal said that ECP showed prejudiced attitude by its decision to conduct re-election on 43 polling stations of NA-250 constituency of Karachi.
Mustafa Kamal questioned that why only Karachi is debatable all around, rigging is also done on other places of country which should be questioned as well.
MQM will only accept re-election on all 180 polling stations of NA-250 constituency under supervision of army and international observers.
He said that they had democratic right to protest against the decision.
It is to be notified that ECP has directed on Tuesday to conduct re-polling in NA-250 constituency on May 19 after acknowledging complaints of rigging and hijacking of polling stations
According to ECP, re-polling will be held in 43 polling stations of the area under supervision of army, which were blamed to be hijacked by unknown culprits.
Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat e Islami (JI) have raised the issue after which rest of the parties joined the chorus of rigging.
From PTI, former general secretary Dr. Arif Alvi was contesting while other prominent candidates include Khushbakht Shujat of Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Naimatullah Khan of JI.
