KARACHI: Pakistan Army will render its services as a quick response force while other personnel will guard sensitive points spots during the general elections in Pakistan.
This was stated by the army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani while addressing an all-crucial meeting, here on Tuesday.
According to the ISPR, as many as one lac, four thousand (over 0.1 million) personnel of police and Rangers will ensure smooth polling in Sindh.
It also said ballot papers have been provided in Balochistan, while efforts are afoot to ensure their presence in the remaining provinces in two days.
Meanwhile, the ECP said that security has been beefed up with 10 (earlier eight) and seven personnel guarding sensitive and ‘less sensitive’ polling stations respectively.
The move seems a reaction to the persistent attacks on election candidates throughout the country, with the latest being on JUI-F candidate in Hangu, KP, killing at least 10 and injuring 30 others.
