Rawalpindi: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani on Tuesday reiterated the army stance that elections will be held across the country on May 11.
Addressing the Youm-e-Shuhda program at Army Headquarters in Rawalpindi, the army chief said that elections will be held on May 11 and no one have doubts about that.
“Game of democracy and dictatorship can be eliminated through awareness in public,” he said adding that within its constitutional domain, the army will provide assistance in ensuring free and fair elections.
He said that success of democracy was related to the success of people and elimination of their miseries adding that election was not a solution for the people’s problem instead it is the way for resolving the problems.
Speaking on the terrorism issue, the army chief said that militancy has taken lives of thounsands of Pakistanis and it includes army, Rangers and other security personnel.
“A small group is trying to betray from the constitution and law of the country,” he said adding such a betrayal would not be accepted at any level.
“Considering fight against terrorism as Army’s fight will lead us to an anarchy,” Kayani said adding that no soldier should have doubt in his mind regarding this warfare against the Pakistani nation.
“Our external enemies are working to increase terrorism in the country.”
The army chief also paid a tribute to the martyrs and injured of the war and said that it was their sacrifices which had safeguard nation from the enemies.
He also applauded the families who gave their sons to fight for defending the borders of the country.
