Islamabad: Pakistan’s Chief Election Commissioner on Tuesday condemned the attacks on election candidates in Balochistan and Peshawar.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Provincial President Israrullah Zehri’s covoy was attacked in Balochistan while an Awami National Party (ANP) gathering was attacked in Peshawar, killing 16 people and injuring 33 others including former minister Ghulam Ahmed Bilour.
Talking to media, Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim conveyed his sympathies for the families who suffered losses of their loved ones during the attacks.
The CEC also condemned attack on Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) election candidate in Hyderabad, second largest city of Sindh province.
Election Commission has never called for the withdrawal of security from the ANP leadership, he said adding that caretaker government should provide adequate security to all election candidates.
