INDIANA: Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America with their striking new series of Public Services Ads seeks to establish the organizations stance as the organization’s founder states, “the absurdity of our country’s current lax laws and weak regulation of guns.”
First of the three ads was released today with a contrast of Trina Schart Hyman’s illustrated version of Little Red Riding Hood with an assault weapon, provoking viewers to  judge as to which has been banned in the name of children’s safety. The version used was banned in 1990 by two school districts in California, Culver City and Empire, since the protagonist brings her grandmother a bottle of wine.
The organization would be releasing two more ads later this week. One of them addresses the issue by comparing assault weapons with dodgeball – recently banned in New Hampshire School district by National Association of Sports and Physical Education – while the last of three features Kinder Surprise eggs, chocolate candies with toys inside that are banned under the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act of 1938 and by the Consumer Products Safety Commission. The ads, in conjunction with a video PSA, are being released through donated media on digital, broadcast and print channels.
Shannon Watts the founder of the organization would join Vice President Joe Biden on a Monday afternoon conference call about gun safety that is open to the American public, stated a press release. All week long, a series of “Stroller Jam” demonstrations are set to take place at senators’ offices across the country, including one in front of the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday that will be followed by planned meetings in the Senate.
Shanon Watts a 42-year-old mother of five turned activist believes that the current lax laws and weak regulations of guns give way to events such as Sandy Hook tragedy. She believes that the mothers can play an important role when it comes to bringing positive change in the society.
