Gujranwala: Just hours after the Supreme Court of Pakistan concluded its hearing of the suo motu notice over Lahore’s Badami Bagh mob attack, at least five people have been injured in a fresh incident of Muslim-Christian clash in Gujranwala district of the country’s Punjab province.
The incident has occurred in Francisi colony, the joint residential area of both the communities, of the district.
In March, a mob had burnt down around 100 homes of Christians in Lahore.
Sources told The News Tribe that few people, belonging to Christian community, were playing loud music in their house near a mosque in the area.
Local people say few Muslims, offering prayer in a nearby mosque, complaint to the prayer leader who made announcement on the loudspeaker and requested the people to slowdown the music.
They claimed that few angry Christian youth damaged Muslims’ homes and subjected the prayer leader of torture after a quarrel with him over the announcement.
The incident later lead to a clash between both the communities and several Muslims also attacked the house of Christians over beating their prayer leader.
Both the groups pelted stones on each other and burnt tyres while the shops went off.
Police rushed to area and fired tear shells and opened aerial firing to control the situation.
Meanwhile, the authorities have also a sought help of community leaders to calm down the people.
