LONDON: A post-mortem carried out on the body of Russian oligarch and Kremlin critic Boris Berezovsky on Monday found the cause of death to be “consistent with hanging”, British police said.
“A post-mortem examination was carried out earlier today on 67-year-old Russian national Boris Berezovsky, who was found dead at a residential property in Mill Lane, Ascot, on Saturday,” said a Thames Valley Police statement.
“The results of the post-mortem examination, carried out by a Home Office pathologist, have found the cause of death is consistent with hanging,” it added. “The pathologist has found nothing to indicate a violent struggle.”
Other tests including a toxicology examination were being carried out, but results will not be received for several weeks, police revealed.
A forensic examination by Scenes of Crime Officers of the property in south London “will continue for several days”, added the statement.
Police earlier said there was no indication that anyone else was involved in the death.
A pathologist from the interior ministry undertook the examination instead of a local expert due to the sensitivity of the case, the force said.
