LONDON: British police said Saturday they have launched a full investigation into the “unexplained” death of exiled Russian tycoon and Kremlin critic Boris Berezovsky.
“Thames Valley Police has launched an investigation into the death of a 67-year-old man at a property in Ascot, Berkshire. His death is currently being treated as unexplained and a full inquiry is under way,” the force said in a statement.
“The area around the property has been cordoned off to allow the investigation to take place. The inquiry is at a very early stage and more details will be released when available.”
Paramedics said they were called to the house in the well-heeled commuter town of Ascot, near London, on Saturday and confirmed that the cause of death was unexplained.
“We were called at 15:18 (1518 GMT) today by a caller who was concerned about the welfare of a gentleman at an address in Ascot,” a spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service, which covers the area, told AFP.
“We sent a number of ambulance officers and one ambulance to the address. The 67-year-old man was confirmed deceased at the scene.
“The death is being treated as unexplained and is being investigated by police. “
