Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday issued lists of parties which were eligible to take part in the next election across the country excluding Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and Muttahaida Quami Movement (MQM).
According to an announcement, the ECP said that 123 political parties are eligible to contest the general elections, but this does not include the PTI or the MQM.
The MQM has been declared ineligible to contest due to the party’s failure to submit details of assets from 2010. The PTI was declared ineligible over the failure to complete party elections.
Meanwhile, MQM has refuted the claim of ECP and said that they had submitted all the details of their party assets.
On the other hand, the intra party elections of the PTI were continuing across the country and soon they would be concluded. According to the analysts, the party has set a great trend of conducting elections within party as compared to the other parties who conduct dummy elections.
Parties which are eligible to contest the elections include Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F), Pakistan Awami Tehreek, APML and others.
