Islamabad: The chairperson Higher Education Commission HEC Dr. Javaid R. Laghari has written letter to Sheikh Rohail Asghar Chairman National Assembly Standing Committee on Education & Training and apprised him about the reservations of the vice chancellors over Private Members HEC Amendment Bill.
Dr. Javaid Laghari informed the Chairman National Assembly Standing Committee on Education & Training that the Executive Committee of all Vice-Chancellors of Pakistan representing 137 universities met yesterday (January 30, 2013) and categorically rejected the proposed Private Members HEC Amendment Bill.
They were of the view that this proposed bill will severely impair the autonomy of the HEC and the Universities, and the achievements that have been made in the last 10 years would not only come to a stop but will be reversed.
As a way forward, they proposed a dialogue between members of the Parliamentary Standing Committees and the various stakeholders, including the Vice-Chancellors.
An emergent meeting of all Vice-Chancellors of public and private universities has been called on February 5, 2013 at Islamabad and the Executive Committee of the Vice-Chancellors have requested a meeting with you, and / or other members of the Committee with all the Vice-Chancellors at a time convenient to you.
