Peshawar: Unidentified men on Wednesday gunned down Dr. Riaz Hussain Shah — a prominent political figure from Parachinar, the capital of Kurram Agency — here in Dabgari bazaar in Peshawar city.
According to The News Tribe correspondent, Hussain was coming out of Khyber Medical Centre, Dabgari, when the assailants shot him to death.
He was member of ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and also contested 2008 general election for a National Assembly seat from Parachinar.
Hussain was a potential winning candidate for upcoming elections. His killing is considered to be a big blow to peace process initiated by warring Sunni-Shia sects in Parachinar.
He was the younger brother of former Inspector General Irshad Hussain and current head of police reserve in Islamabad. Hussain’s twin brother Dr. Mujahid Hussain is currently a head of polio program in the province.
