Karachi: A renewed anti-polio drive was commenced in Karachi amid security challenges after countrywide ruthless assaults on the campaigners last month.
The campaign was officially kicked-off after Pakistan’s Goodwill Ambassador of Polio Eradication Asifa Bhutto Zardari administered polio drops to children in the city.
Yesterday, the drive was initiated in the areas of Liaquatabad, Gulberg, North Nazimabad and New Karachi Town, with luckily no incident of attack on any anti-polio team.
Sources said that stringent security measures have been adopted to ensure a safe and sound drive against the fatal disease.
The campaign in the city was halted last month after deadly attacks on polio teams in the metropolis.
