Islamabad: The current Democratic system in Pakistan has never enjoyed the support of the people as it has provided them with the flood of corruption and lawlessness.
Although the supporters and opponents of the democracy have heavily criticized the current democratic government for its corruption and failure to control lawlessness in the country but some analysts have indicated regarding the possibility of the pack-up of democratic system in the country.
The analysts are giving great significance to the return of famous religious scholar Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri after ending his self-exile of almost eight years in Canada.
The scholar, who has adopted Canadian nationality and abandoned his Pakistani citizenship, had raised the slogan ‘Lets Save State Not Politics’, which is of great significance.
Taking a step further ahead, renowned columnist Irfan Siddiqui has said that in next elections Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) would also support the slogan of Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri.
It is to be mentioned here that Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri was a close aide of former dictator Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf and being a member of assembly in his tenure, the scholar also supported the referendum conducted by the dictator.
Dr Qadri said that he had given the slogan of ‘Save State not Politics’ due to the increased rate of corruption in the country. “Government has made no mechanism to culminate corruption in the country.”
“There is a great threat of insurgent elements challenging the government authority in different provinces but it seemed that the government has no will to address the lawlessness in the provinces,” he added.
He further said that people were forced to cooperate with the extortionist elements in different cities to save their businesses.
The former legislator also said that after returning an installment of debt to International Monetary Fund (IMF) in January or February, a new wave of inflation would badly affect the poor class of the country.
“Current political parties consider new elections as a tool to save the state but unfortunately these parties are also part of this corrupt system and instead of going against this corrupt ruling system they are working to guard it,” he added.
Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday also confirmed that the corruption of Rs 10-12 billion was reported in the country on daily basis.
Although, the aide of former dictator contradicted to the view that his visit was an attempt to postpone the current elections and added that he wanted to end the culture of oppression from the elections and provide people a fair chance to elect their representatives.
Responding to the claim of saving state from the religious scholar, certain elements had said that Dr. Qadri would convince people to adopt presidential electoral system instead of the current system.
Well-known columnist Dr Shahid Masood and Senior Geo News analysts Najam Sethi had also endorsed the claim from certain elements.
Selection of Lahore for his first public gathering after the return has also raised suspicions among the different sectors and they were of the view that the city was chosen to lower the influence of PML-N and make alliance with PTI in the next election.
Several interviews with the religious scholar and articles on his return has also increased doubts among the media representative and they had termed it as part of special ‘Public Relations’ campaign from hidden hands.
Although Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri has rejected any hand behind his return and slogan but there are clear indications that the democratic system in the country might be wrapped-up.
