Lahore: Renowned International wrestler Antonio Inoki has arrived Pakistan after a long period of 36 years on the invitation of Punjab government.
In 1976 Antonio was challenged by Pakistani wrestler Akram aka “Akki” and he came to Pakistan for the encounter. He was surprised to see nearly 50,000 spectators turn up for the match at the National Stadium Karachi.
The Japanese wrestler embraced Islam in 1990 and his recent visit is an attempt to strengthen ties between the Pakistan and Japanese people.
The Japanese wrestler would take part in the International Sports and Peace Wrestling Festival to mark the 60 years of sporting relations between Pakistan and Japan, the Punjab Sports Board (PSB) said.
Inoki and 10 other Japanese wrestlers will have free style wrestling match on 2 December with local wrestlers in national hockey stadium.
