Karachi: In the past 16-year Sindh government has never stressed on the need of new engineering universities whereas there has been a constant increase in the pre-engineering students in the last 10 years.
The Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering and Technology Nawabshah was established in 1996 when Benazir Bhutto was the prime minister and Abdullah Shah was the chief minister.
“As the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) led government is about to complete its five year term but no such engineering institution has been established in their reign, however, during the time period institutions such as the Liaquat Medical College Jamshoro, the Chandka Medical College, the Peoples Medical College, the Dow Medical College and the Sindh Medical College have been given the status of medical universities. Along with that the Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC) is also being made a university,” leading Urdu daily Jang reports.
On provincial level, there are only three government engineering universities including the NED Engineering University, the Mehran Engineering University and the Quaid-e-Awam Engineering University whereas the Dawood Engineering University has also been given to provincial government, the report added.
Such facts indicate the government’s interest in the field of education.
