Karachi: The All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) on Monday said owners of the CNG stations have closed their outlets as last resort as they were unable to pocket more losses.
CNG business is no more viable as recent developments have left owners of filling stations with no option but to take loans to pay the utility bills and salaries, he said.
In a statement issued here today, Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha, Chairman Supreme Council APCNGA said that we don’t want to burden masses therefore government should introduce uniform rates of gas and uniform taxation to provide relief to masses.
CNG consumers should not be made to share burden of other influential sectors, he stressed.
Paracha said that Ogra has accepted in today’s negotiations that CNG sector is overtaxed and assured that they will raise the issue with Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources to decide the CNG prices after Nov. 28.
He informed that a pricing formula having three options which has been backed by all the CNG associations has been handed over to ORGA and now it is up to the government to accept any of the option to keep prices of economical fuel in range of the inflation-stricken masses.
Giving details, Paracha said that we have proposed prices of gas and taxation according to that imposed on fertiliser, industrial and power sectors.
In the first option the prices of CNG in region one will become Rs 42.26 and Rs 44.99 in region two. The second option will bring retail price of CNG to Rs 68.80 in region one and Rs 65.63 in region, he said.
If third option is accepted, the prices will be Rs 72.04 in region one and Rs 68.59 in reion two, he informed.
Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha said that only way to make prices rational while ensuring relief to masses is reduction in gas cess and gas surcharge.
Government has shifted the entire burden on CNG stations without reducing taxes which has resulted in confusion and problems, he said, adding that such decisions will result in rift between CNG stations owners and masses.
He said that APCNGA has not asked anyone to close their businesses but it were bills of gas and electricity which owners were unable to pay.
