Quetta: Civil hospital emergency ward opened again after one week closure as five doctors came back on their duties from strike on Monday.
Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Balochistan earlier called for strike after abduction of Dr Saeed Ahmed Khan, an eye specialist and head of LRBT Hospital, on October 16. PMA demanded his recovery and assurance of protection for doctors during current unrest in the province.
The provincial government failed to recover Dr Saeed prompting PMA to boycott their duties until his recovery.
The government warned the doctors to end strike and to rejoin their duties but PMA ignored the warning and extended the strike.
The government suspended some of doctors including President PMA Balochistan Dr. Sultan Tareen but failed to make doctors join their duties.
On Monday, five doctors left the strike and came back on their duties and opened emergency ward after seven consecutive days closure.
Police were deployed outside the ward to avoid any untoward situation as PMA threatened earlier to remove doctors by force if the provincial government took measures to bring doctors back.
