Islamabad: Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Syed Khurshid Shah has stressed the need to launch an operation in Karachi after taking all stakeholders on-board to ensure lasting peace there.
The minister gave these remarks while speaking on the occasion of the Senate meeting held under the chairmanship of Nayyar Hussain Bukhari.
Khurshid Shah said that all political parties including MQM and ANP support such an action in this city. He furthered that government has to decide the method of action, adding that collateral damage should be avoided in the process.
He opined that it is not enough to say that the killings in Karachi are only of sectarian nature. He asserted that the ‘question is about saving the country, not the government’.
1992 operation termed ‘most successful’
Participating in the debate which started after the resolution put forward on deweaponization in Karachi, ANP senator Haji Adeel said an average of five people are being killed in the city daily. He termed the operation conducted by Naseerullah Babar in the past as the most successful one.
However, Senator Mustafa Kamal from MQM negated this notion, saying that such an action would be ‘tantamount to experiencing new things on the people of Karachi.’ He appealed that all Pakistanis be considered equal citizens.
