Karachi: Despite spending billions of rupees on law and order during last three fiscal years, Pakistan’s federal and provincial governments have failed to restore peace and secure lives of the citisens.
The governments have spent Rs 1900 billionĀ since 2010 to secure the lives of the citisens and protect businesses, local Pakistani Urdu daily Dunya reports.
The report says Sindh has increased its security budget by 34 percent, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by 18.3 percent, Punjab government by 29.9 percent and Balochistan by 23.5 percent in current fiscal year. “The federal government has also increased the budget by 22.6 percent.”
“Since 2010, the federal government spent Rs. 1490.64 billion, Punjab spent Rs. 220.581 billion, Sindh spent Rs. 129.201 billion, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa spent Rs. 80.57 billion and Balochistan spent Rs. 37.215 billion on security,” the daily said.
Despite allocation of billions of rupees on security,Ā the law enforcements still complaining saying the shortage of funds is the main reason behind Karachi unrest which took the lives of 1900 people in first 10 months of 2012.
Businesses are also being transferred to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Dubai and Singapore due to energy crisis and sharp increase in crimes.
