Karachi: Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s National Assembly member Advocate Iqbal Qadri submitted a petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, demanding the Sharif brothers and their family members’ ineligibility to contest the next general elections.
Qadri filed the petition in the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry and called for an investigation into the alleged irregularities in the assets of the Sharif family in Pakistan and abroad.
He also asks the apex court to make public the details of decades-old bank loans that were written off, making both the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the National Accountability Bureau parties in the case.
It may be mentioned here that according to NAB, the Sharif family is a defaulter of Rs3.8 billion in one of the three corruption references against it.
Earlier this week, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz also filed a case in the SC challenging MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s control in Karachi. The petition said that Altaf was a foreign national and, therefore, was forbidden under the law to become a member of parliament.
