DOSWELL, Virginia: Republican Mitt Romney is making a bold, last-minute play for Pennsylvania with plans to attend a rally in the Democrat-leaning state Sunday 48 hours before the US election, campaign aides said.
Team Romney is coordinating a major event in the state that the Republican nominee is planning to attend on Sunday, two campaign officials told AFP on Thursday on condition of anonymity.
Pennsylvania has been in President Barack Obama’s column for months, with the latest Real Clear Politics average of polls showing the incumbent up 4.6 percentage points in the large, eastern state.
But Romney’s pollsters and senior aides have consistently dismissed polls as giving an incomplete picture in many states where they feel the Republican challenger has built momentum in recent weeks that they argue could translate into stronger than expected voter turnout.
