Peshawar: UNESCO intends to launch its flagship awareness game “Disaster Master Game” in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in near future.
This was an interest thing informed to participants of United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Culture Organization’s (UNESCO) review workshop on “School Safety Action Plan”United Nations’ One UN program on Disaster Risk Management (DRM).
This workshop was organized in collaboration with Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and Provincial Reconstruction Rehabilitation and Settlement Authority (PRRSA) with Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to finally endorse the action plan on school safety for the province.
Welcoming the participants, the Secretary Relief, Rehabilitation & Settlement Department, Mr. Rasheed Ahmed emphasized on the significance of disaster risk reduction in education sector.
Mr. Ahmed also stressed that participants should actively participate and give valuable recommendations in a group exercise to develop a comprehensive road map. Deputy Director, PDMA Mr. Bakhtiar Khan in his speech formally endorsed the draft of the school safety action plan. Mr. Zahid Arif, Secretary Communication and Works (C&W) Department chaired group work on structural and non-structural group presentation. Mr. Zahid, lauded the efforts of all stakeholders and endorsed the school safety plan.
UNESCO appreciated the efforts of Education Department, C&W Department and PDMA in facilitating the workshop and taking the ownership of the school safety action plan.
The plan will soon be finalized and circulated to all concerned stakeholders for implementation.
This project is in continuation of draft plan, which was developed by UNESCO in 2011 for KP, involving key public sector and civil society organizations through a consultative process, laying a road map for School Safety in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
