Karachi: As October is marked as Pink Ribbon Month, Mobilink in collaboration with Pink Ribbon Campaign has highlighted its support for ‘Pinktober – the Breast Cancer Awareness Month’, by turning the Pakistan Monument pink with lighting effects.
This initiative is in accordance with international support for ‘Pinktober’, which has seen famous monuments such as the Pyramids (Egypt) and the Merlion (Singapore) also turned pink to create awareness of breast cancer.
This effort is a continuation of Mobilink’s nationwide support for the Pink Ribbon Campaign during ‘Pinktober’ as part of which Mobilink has collected donations through a SMS campaign and has also educated customers using information material distributed through bill inserts, customer care centers and advertising. The campaign is being conducted under the umbrella of Mobilink Foundation, which is the only registered non-profit organization in Pakistan’s telecom sector and has joined hands with Pink Ribbon Campaign to help them achieve greater outreach for the noble cause.
Omar Manzur, Head of Corporate Communications Mobilink talked about the awareness drive as a means to truly making a difference to the society, emphasizing, “As a socially responsible organization, we believe that awareness is the first step towards a healthy society. We are glad to have partnered with Pink Ribbon to show our commitment towards this cause. Symbolizing the Pakistan Monument to spread awareness about breast cancer is a unique way of expressing solidarity which shows Mobilink’s commitment towards the cause.’’
Representative of Pink Ribbon at the ceremony mentioned the importance of breast cancer awareness, saying, ‘’1 out of 9 women in Pakistan are at the risk of breast cancer, which claims the lives of 40,000 women in the country every year. We appreciate Mobilink’s support for the cause and their innovative idea of spreading awareness about breast cancer. Such initiatives are sure to spread an effective message out to everyone.’’
October is celebrated worldwide as the month of Breast Cancer awareness, and Pink Ribbon Pakistan is the only nationwide campaign that has been working for the past 8 years and has successfully taken the lead by raising public awareness into the causes of breast cancer and promoting the significance of early detection for better treatment and survival. During ‘Pinktober’, Pink Ribbon sensitized girls and women by arranging various events and activities for direct interaction. In addition to medical camps for advice and clinical checkup, Pink Ribbon also arranged a free national screening program in collaboration with its partner hospitals.
